The answer is Yes! I know when you hear all about the north shore of Oahu, and the huge waves we have here and how dangerous it is, it is hard to believe that a surf lesson is possible. So many times, I've had lessons and people call in to me wondering if the surf lesson is cancelled since the waves are so big. So many people not from the north shore will tell newcomers that it is impossible for a beginner to take a surf lessons on the north shore of Oahu. These people who say these things are not from here and have no idea the safe surf spots we have that are protected from the gigantic waves. It is true the surf can be the most dangerous in the world at times. So I give them that.
However, If your a local like I am and have lived on the north shore for 35 years I know right where to take people to keep them safe and have a great surf lesson.
Near the town of Haleiwa lies two amazing beginner spots that are absolutely Ideal for beginner surfers. Even when the surf is gigantic on the outside breaks, by the time it rolls all the wave into the cove it can be safe, calm and perfect for beginner surfers.
You do still need to go with a teacher since it can have a lot of current, and if your not in the right place, you could be swept out. So its always wise to take a surf lesson.
So next time somebody tells you that its impossible to learn to surf on the north shore of Oahu, Simply dont believe it and give me a call.
